Welcome to the

Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach & Navigation Program

We help medically underserved women access breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and support services.

The Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program educates women about breast cancer and the critical importance of screening. Early screening can help identify cancer when it can be most effectively treated. The program also assists women in navigating the healthcare system through one-on-one guidance and direct interaction.

Through the Welters Program at Perlmutter Â鶹ÊÓƵapp Center, patient navigators identify women who could benefit from breast cancer screening through outreach and educational programs in community venues that women routinely visit, such as beauty salons, churches, and mosques. This includes African American women, who are twice as likely to have aggressive types of breast cancer that are harder to treat, and Hispanic and Latina women, for whom breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death.

Patient Navigator with Patient

Our patient navigators help women access breast cancer screening services and provide support throughout their diagnosis and treatment.

Our patient navigators help women secure breast health services, such as low-cost and free mammograms, and provide them with active support, from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship. This may include reminders about and rides to and from medical appointments, assistance with record keeping, and help communicating with doctors and other staff. The program also provides opportunities for women to have access to promising new therapies through .
